Do you want to do your own updates and self-edit your website? If so, you need a CMS… If not, you don’t need a CMS…
Please take the time to read the following information that will hopefully help you weigh up whether or not you need a CMS, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any queries, or need some help with choosing the best type of website build for your needs.
Great question! CMS stands for Content Management System, meaning it’s a system for you to self-manage your website’s content.
The type of CMS we use, or build your website with, is called a WordPress CMS – WordPress is great, it’s very easy to use, it’s what’s known as ‘Open Source Technology’ which basically means you don’t have to pay us (or anyone) for the WordPress software to run, or operate, on your choice of website hosting account.
A website that has a CMS attached is one that you can go in and edit whenever you like, as mentioned above…
A website that doesn’t have a CMS attached is often referred to as a HTML build, or a Non-CMS build and, because there’s no CMS attached, you may need the help of a programmer / website developer to make changes to your HTML website when needed.
We have built hundreds of websites over the past 15 years, some with a CMS, some without… we assist all of our clients with whatever website help they need, including website updates (for websites with or without a CMS), keeping CMS software up to date and secure, and much more… see our Other Services page for details.
There’s a bit more set up required for a website that has a CMS that takes time, and website programming knowledge and skill.
Having us set up your WordPress CMS and building the website for you will ensure you have a fantastic, professional site that works properly on all the major browsers (ie Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Edge / Internet Explorer, Safari etc), with the correct set up and display of all of your text, images and Social Media, PLUS everything around your domain name, domain emails and hosting (don’t forget our Free Hosting offer!) all work smoothly and reliably…. Once we’ve set up and built your website you will find it a breeze to get in and make edits to your own website as and when needed!
A CMS is no different to any other software on the marketplace, such as anti-virus software for example… Keeping your CMS up to date is essential for security purposes, as it’s generally via out-dated CMS software that hackers will gain access to a website.
A HTML build is more secure and less prone to hacking, because it doesn’t have software (ie CMS or Plugins) that can become outdated and vulnerable to the tons of automated programs that hackers unleash on the internet – these programs continuously prod and poke website software, seeking out comprised systems that can be exploited.
If you can imagine the ‘cleaner’ less bulky coding of a HTML website build and compare it with the bulky coding and programming that comes with a CMS website build (ie all that programming that makes it possible for non-technies to self-edit their websites!), then you can probably imagine that the HTML website will be the one that loads (or appears) that little bit faster for website visitors… and for Google! A website that is fast to load is a website that gets Google’s tick of approval!
If you know for sure that making regular updates to your website is what you want, and you or a nominated person has the time to do them, then a WordPress CMS will suit your needs.
If you know for sure that you won’t get time to do your own website updates, or perhaps won’t have time to learn how to use a WordPress CMS, then go with the HTML build.
We have built hundreds of websites, for dozens of industries, over the years, some with a CMS, some without… We assist all of our clients with whatever website help they need, including website updates (for websites with or without a CMS), keeping CMS software up to date and secure, and much more…
